Information Parent's need to know

Special Needs Parents are concerned that parent's are not aware what you need to satisfy to get SNA's and resource hours. You need to have info correct to satisfy NCSE & SENO's criteria.

*You should get new report's compiled at least every 2/3 years.

This circular 07-02 is the most imp, your psychological & educational reports MUST meet these criteria.

You should bring this circular with you & the one below to your consultant. To ensure you do meet these requirements.
http://www.ncse.ie/uploads/1/Circular07- 02.pdf &http://www.education.ie/servlet/blobserv let/cl0009_2009.doc .

Also, you cannot submit new reports in an appeal.

Parents should be aware of the following

  • we suggest that you do not meet with the SENO on your own. All or some of the following should be with you : Teacher, SNA, Resource Teacher  & or Principal. They all know your child and may be able to assist in the passing on of knowledge about your child.
  • We have asked the NCSE to copy all communications between the school and NCSE about our children to us. It is our feeling that we are entitled to this information without having to appeal to it under the Freedom of Information Act. We have no way of knowing if an appeal has been made when we request it.You should request a copy of it from your school for your files.
  • Sometimes we do not know how many hours our child has been granted.
  • There is NO independent appeals process. If you do make an appeal it goes to a Senior SENO. It is not transparent if there are indeed different level's SENO's.
  • We have questioned the authority of a SENO to overturn a Psychological report on the grounds of a SENO's academic qualification's.
Please contact your local Special Needs Parents representative for more information. See our contact list : http://www.specialneedsparents.ie/contact-us.html
