Governance refers to how an organisation is run, directed and controlled. Good governance means an organisation will design and put in place policies and procedures that will make sure the organisation runs effectively.
The Governance Code is principles-based, rather than rule-based, and it is voluntary.
Special Needs Parents Association is a Type A organisation. Type A groups are run by volunteers and do not employ staff. The members of the board/committee are therefore responsible for:
Overseeing the work of the organisation (governance);
Organising the daily work (management), and;
Carrying out the work of the organisation (operations).

Special Needs Parent Association has signed up to the principles of good governance in line with The Governance Code and are on the adoption journey working towards full implementation.
Please read the Governance Code Principles that we are working on incorporating in to our activities as a voluntary organisation and for more general information on The Governance Code click HERE
